Arkansas Football Countdown: 86 Days

Nelson Chenault-US PRESSWIRE

86 Equals Greatness

1986 was a year of great memories. The Arkansas Razorback football team had a succesful season, going 9-3 under Coach Ken Hatfield and took a trip to the Orange Bowl.

Top Gun also came out in '86 and I think we can all agree that it is one of the all-time greatest movies. Bon Jovi was rocking-out with "You Give Love a Bad Name." Basically just a great all-around year.

This football season, #86 will be crushing offenses like Maverick was crushing MiG's. Razorback junior defensive end Trey Flowers looks to be headed for a stand-out season. Flowers made a big impact as a true freshman and earned a spot on the All-SEC Freshman Team.

In his first season as a Razorback, Flowers appeared in all 13 games. He racked up 28 tackles including one sack and a couple of pass break-ups.

The Hunstville, Alabama native continued his success as a sophomore. He started all 12 games and was able to get 6 sacks along with his 50 tackles. Arguably the best game of his career came against Auburn in 2012. He got to the QB 3.5 times and was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Flowers has the ability and size, 6-4, 256, to give any offensive linemen trouble. It is this writer's opinion that 86 will have a standout year as a junior.

New Razorback Coach Bret Bielema should be able to get the best out of Flowers. Bielema knows a thing or two about getting production out of his defensive linemen. Just ask J.J. Watt, you know, the guy that just won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.

Flowers is majoring in Business at the U of A, and made the Razorback Honor Roll in 2011 and the SEC Honor Roll in 2012.

Only 86 more days.
