Recruiting: Hogs Host Final Official Visits

Osceola's Korliss Marshall will visit The Hill this weekend - Hog Country

It is the final weekend of official visits before this year's recruiting season comes to an end. Also included are some updates on last weekends visitors.

Fayetteville will welcome possibly three out-of-state prospects and one from Arkansas.

According to sources, here are the four lucky prospects who will dine at the Catfish Hole on Friday:

RB Denzell Evans (6-foot-0, 205 pounds) Bellaire, TX; Bellaire- Evans is more a power running back. He committed to Houston in March of last year. He had 11 touchdowns and 708 yards on 105 carries as a junior. In addition to Arkansas, Evans also has offers from Arizona State, Michigan State, Minnesota, and SMU.

ATH Damon Mitchell (6-2, 205, 4.5 40-yard dash) Egg Harbor City, NJ; Cedar Creek- Mitchell is rated as the No. 12 dual-threat quarterback, according to 247sports.com. He is a Georgia Tech commit, but made an official visit to Wisconsin this fall. Bielema is getting two official visits of sorts, which means he must really like this guy. If anything, Bielema can sell him on the fact that the Hogs play at Rutgers next season. He also has offers from Arizona State and Boston College.

RB Korliss Marshall (6-0, 190, 4.34) Osceola, AR; Osceola- The Central Arkansas commit was offered by Arkansas on Wednesday, and is considered by Rivals.com as the sixth-best prospect in Arkansas. He rushed for 1,711 yards and 24 touchdowns this season, but is being recruited as an athlete. He could play several different positions with his speed. As we all know he could pick a position, and he could probably help.

WR Corey Cooper (5-11, 191 4.58) Raleigh, NC; Millbrook- Last week, Cooper committed to Syracuse on his official visit and was unsure if he would take a visit this weekend. He originally committed to Louisville last summer. Cooper has offers from Tennessee, South Carolina, Miami, and West Virginia among others.

NOTE: At the time of publishing, it was still uncertain if Corey Cooper was making the trip to Arkansas.

Last weekend's visits were incredibly successful with three of the seven recruits on the trip making commitments. There are at least two more prospects, RB Alex Collins and OL Denver Kirkland, from last weekend who have the Hogs high on their list.

SBNation's Bud Elliot made predictions on the decisions of the top 60 recruits remaining and is leaning towards Collins committing to Arkansas because of his close ties to Brett Bielema and those on his staff who followed him from Wisconsin.

Elliot predicted that Kirkland will end up at Florida State, but Kirkland used his final official visit to Arkansas. WholeHogSports.com's Richard Davenport said Kirkland was "surprised and shocked" by what Arkansas has to offer, and his mother was impressed by the academic quality.

Tonight news broke that Miami has taken away their scholarship offer to the Miami native Kirkland, which did not sit well with his high school coach and former Miami coach under Randy Shannon Tim "Ice" Harris. Harris said Kirkland was ready to commit but wanted to wait until Signing Day to do so.

"I just don't understand why they couldn't wait," Harris aid. "The same way [linebacker] Matthew Thomas is a big-time kid, Denver is the same big-time offensive lineman. Let the kid enjoy his moment. If they were going to do this to him, why not let him know well ahead of time so he could plan another visit. Don't come to us in the end and say you're going in another direction because of a defensive lineman."

The worst part is Kirkland and his teammates were celebrating their state championship in a school parade when his offer was pulled from Miami. Not exactly how you make friends with the neighbors, Al Golden.

All of this means Arkansas is down to the final two for Kirkland, who will be a big pick-up for any program.
