Chris Bahn of Arkansas Sports 360 reported yesterday that Football Coach John L. Smith has added to the football staff. Adding a coach to the staff this close to football season is a head scratcher. The role he will play is unknown and Arkansas is already at capacity of assistant coaches. It sounds like Coach Smith has something up his sleeve.
Bud Elliott of SB Nation believes that the smart money is to take the under on Arkansas winning 8.5 games this year. As a homer and addicted gambler (probably should not admit that so please no one call me with their bookie's number) I strongly disagree. Having a strong-armed quarterback, a freak running back and wide receiver that will make corners cry is a recipe for a minimum of 9 victories. Mr. Elliott you may be eating crow at the end of the season.
Will Tyler Bray be the next moron quarterback from the SEC? The SEC has had some pretty bad off the field decision makers under center such as Stephen Garcia, Jordan Jefferson and Ryan Mallett (I hate to say Mallett but I think we all know he made some bad decisions). Joel Hollingsworth from rockytoptalk.com brings up Bray's run in with law enforcement. It sounds as if Bray was just having fun, but when you are QB 1 you can't make stupid public mistakes.
Hog fans need to sell out every game if they want to be thought of as a top program. Too bad we are not even batting .500. Jim Harris of Arkansas Sports 360 looks into the lack of sell-out games in Little Rock and Fayetteville. Ohio State and Alabama have had more than 90,000 in attendance for spring games and if we want to compete with the big boys our fans need to be able to put at least 72,000 butts in seats for games that actually matter.
Future Razorback Bobby Portis and his Arkansas Wings' teammates had an impressive summer season. The Wings finished the summer season ranked No. 21 in the Five-Star Top 25. Portis will bring some much needed help to the forward position and if we are lucky he will bring his teammate Moses Kingsley with him to Fayetteville. Portis has seen his stock rise recently and is considered a top 10 player by some publications.
