Bobby Petrino's Father Says Petrino Interested In Kentucky; Wants To Stay In SEC

Kevin C. Cox

Bobby Petrino Sr. told the Louisville Courier Journal that Petrino desperately wants another job, and that the SEC was where he always wanted to be. Read the full article here.

It doesn't take much to get Bobby Petrino rumors flying now that as many as four SEC coaching jobs are expected to be open in a few weeks.

The Louisville Courier-Journal's Adam Himmelsbach was able to speak to Petrino's father, Bobby Petrino Sr, and the coach's father said his son clearly wanted to remain in the SEC, saying his career goal was to be an SEC coach.

"I just know this, that he's interested in Kentucky. He wants to stay in the SEC. That was his life’s goal was to go to the SEC."

Petrino, Sr. did say he didn't believe Petrino had spoken to Kentucky, and wouldn't say if Petrino had spoken to any other schools. There have been unconfirmed rumors between Petrino and Auburn. Of course, Auburn hasn't actually fired Gene Chizik yet, but as we all know, talking to Bobby Petrino about becoming the coach at Auburn while the Tigers actually employed another coach is not exactly a new thing.

Petrino's name hasn't been coming up as much at Tennessee lately, probably mostly because Vols fans are convinced they're getting Jon Gruden.

Petrino's father also said, "he told me he might take the first job he gets offered." That may be true, or it could also be a ploy to convince a team to offer him a job as soon as possible.

The SEC coaching carousel is just getting started, and it should be moving steady well into December.
